What we do
Hampshire Homes Hub – community housing expertise
Rural affordable housing
Before Hampshire Homes Hub began in 2020, Action Hampshire worked with partner local authorities and housing associations specifically to help deliver affordable homes in rural communities across Hampshire. This partnership was known as HARAH- Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing.
HARAH delivered over 500 affordable rural homes in over 50 villages across the county, housing over 1,400 people.
Providing affordable housing to local people helps create balanced communities, breathes fresh life into rural areas and helps to ensure that local people can stay in their communities whatever their age or circumstance.
Our new Hampshire Homes Hub remains dedicated to working with parish councils to deliver affordable homes for local people on rural exception sites.
Through our rural housing programme we:
- Help identify local housing need with Parish Councils through carrying out housing need surveys
- Work with Parish Councils to find suitable sites for a small affordable housing scheme (the schemes are usually built on ‘Rural Exception Sites’ – land outside of but adjacent to a village’s settlement boundary)
- Work with landowners who have offered land for rural exception site housing
- Hold public consultation events to give residents the opportunity to comment on potential sites and schemes
