The Recycled Assets Company – A moving tale!
“I think we’re gonna need a bigger truck” This is what Nigel said when he saw the relocation job we won in December, a week before Xmas break. It was at this point that we started quoting other famous quotes from films, so I responded, “there ain’t nothing we can’t do in our truck”…he then said, “hang on fellows; I’ve got a great idea”!
Firstly, we diversified our business model last year to include removals and relocation work in addition to our traditional clearance work. We’re able to offer companies a complete relocation service from crate hire to unpacking at the new address, while also clearing and cleaning their old offices making a move simple and manageable.
We also moved ourselves last year and have a new office and warehouse space which is open to trade/the public and we often see local business owners coming in to browse our huge range of pre-owned office furniture.
One of our biggest highlights is the hiring of three new staff: Andrew (pictured above) is the new outlet store manager and comes with a background in IT recycling, which we’ve found enormously helpful as we are licenced dealers, carriers and brokers of WEE waste. The second hire is Penny, our new account manager, who, despite daily battles with Fibromyalgia, has a great work ethic and is the most organised person we know! The third hire is Lee, deaf from birth but has great initiative when it comes to removals and he’s already started to teach us all sign language which everyone enjoys. As a social enterprise our people are important to us succeeding in our mission of making a positive difference through meaningful wholesome work for people who are disadvantaged.
Another highlight of last year was being accepted onto the school of social entrepreneurs; a programme designed to kick-start social businesses through the support of a Lloyds Bank mentor and structured ‘action days’ from the SSE delivery team. This support has enabled us to develop our waste to energy solution which is progressing very well, but that’s another story!
Oh yes and coming second to Tesco in employee of the year from CDG Wise ability was a good highlight too!"
And finally, hot off the press: We have just been shortlisted in The News Business Excellence Awards 2015, in the category of Start Up Business of the Year! The awards will be held in Portsmouth on 6 March; wish us luck!"
And this just in – even hotter off the press: The Recycled Assets Company have just won the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce’s Mentor Magic 2015 Award! The prize is a year’s free mentoring from experienced business experts that will be specifically designed to help the winner’s growth plans. Congratulations to Jason and everyone involved.
