Building Better Opportunities Inspiring Enterprise Launch


Yesterday was the official launch of our new enterprise project, Building Better Opportunities, Inspiring Enterprise. Thank you to our partners: WSX Enterprise, Surrey Community Action, University of Winchester and Fredericks Foundation, and to all of those who attended, we are very excited to get started.

The programme focuses on supporting long term unemployed, lone parents, people with disabilities, older workers and people in minority groups into self-employment through enterprise training.

We have long been championing social enterprise as a way of individuals and communities reaching their potential; and being able to inspire and empower new and aspiring social entrepreneurs is something we are passionate about.

Our existing programmes of support for social enterprise development and our networks of smaller community organisations through Hampshire mean we are well placed to deliver the outcomes for the BBO programme. We will be reaching out to our contacts in the Enterprise M3 area and will offering high quality support, training and development for those people with a great idea for a social business; to address their own employment needs and to benefit their communities or the environment.

We are looking forward to booking local community halls and centres to deliver workshops: the β€˜Is Social Enterprise for me?’ will be an introduction to the idea of a social business – we find that awareness and understanding of the social enterprise concept is patchy and we will use these opportunities to bang the drum for social enterprise and to help the people with ideas to clarify what they want to achieve and to wear the label of social entrepreneur proudly!

We are particularly looking forward to making stronger links in areas we have less involvement in and building a strong culture of social enterprise there.
We will then follow up with a rolling programme of everything the budding social entrepreneur needs to know to run a sustainable and effective social business, to be able to identify their mission and values and to demonstrate the impact they are having on their community – oh and accounting and legal structures and other stuff too.

We will be holding an introductory session at our Action Hampshire office in Winchester for those with an interest in the programme and for any organisations that think this might be a benefit to their service users.
