Village Halls Week 2019 starts on Tuesday! From Tuesday 22 to Monday 28 January we’ll be joining with the ACRE Network of rural development charities to celebrate the impact of village halls and similar community venues.

In particular, we want to show how village halls help to tackle social isolation, giving people a local venue for activities from lunch clubs and support groups to exercise classes and film shows. Stand-up poet Kate Fox has written a Village Halls Week poem, commissioned by the National Rural Touring Forum (NRTF), to capture the diversity of activities at village halls. You can read the poem below.

How you can get involved

Shout about the difference your venue makes! Village halls and community centres provide a space for communities to come together, something ever more pertinent with the rising number of people affected by loneliness. Rural communities in particular are seeing diminishing services and social areas, with many pubs, shops, and other facilities closing. When these community spaces disappear, it becomes harder to connect, meet new people and have that much-needed interaction.

On the ACRE website there are more details, along with a poster template that you can either edit yourselves (if you have the software and skills!) or ask ACRE staff to edit for you – please email Felicity Humphrey for this.

You are also welcome to download the Village Halls Week image above for inclusion in your own publicity materials, on your website etc. Either save the image onto your computer / device, or copy it directly into your poster or leaflet.

And do take this opportunity to tell your local media, businesses, and the community in general about all the great things that happen at your building. We sent out a news release on Thursday to our media contacts. Feel free to use the text as a basis for your own publicity efforts – download the news release below:
