Health awareness day in Southampton - a great success!

A grant from the Communities Against Cancer programme helped the St Denys Activity Group to run a health awareness day for their group members. They got 80 people together on a Saturday in late June to learn about various forms of cancer and some other serious health issues.

Action Hampshire was delighted to support this activity as it achieved exactly what Communities Against Cancer was set up to do:
help people reduce their risk of cancer, be aware of the signs and symptoms of cancer, and seek help at an earlier stage.

Here are some comments from people who came along to the event:

  • Very good. Informative and welcoming
  • Wonderful speaker – she gave a feeling of hope
  • Excellent speaker. Made a difficult subject seem easy to discuss.
  • Very good presentation, very well explained

Groups and activities like this play such an important role with getting positive messages about health issues across. Some people do need additional support and encouragement to take action themselves, and this is just what the St Denys Activity Group’s event offered.
