The Village comes together!

For Village Halls week 2020 we are celebrating the contribution that some of our members have to their community by sharing the history of their hall/community space!

Four Marks Village Hall

Frank Maloney, Trustee

During a roof survey in 2019 it was apparent that the flat felt roof of our Village Hall had ‘bubbled’ and was in need of replacement. Being environmentally aware, it was decided to bring the thermal insulation up to the current standard.

We sought quotations and found that the cost was in excess of our total resources. We applied for Grants and have been successful in gaining the promise of some funding from HCC. Our local District Councillors have also indicated their support for the new Financial Year.

Unfortunately we still have a funding shortfall.

Step forward the Village!

This week the Village Hall Trustees held a very successful Retro Disco supported by over 100 villagers.  Local businesses also donated prizes for our raffle, the village Over 60’s Lunch Club, a regular Hall user, provided the refreshments and bar and another hall user provided the DJ, lights and table decorations. We were also supported with donations from villagers who were unable to join us on the night.

A large number of the participants joined in with the retro theme sporting Mary Quant and ‘Flower Power’ style dresses, hot pants, punk and ABBA, with hairstyles to match. The wearer best costume took home a prize.

Other fundraising events towards this project have been undertaken by the Over 60’s Lunch Club WI and our local Beaver Scouts.

With the Village coming together, we have reduced the gap by some £1,700!

  • Action Hampshire has always been a useful font of information for us at Winchester Churches Nightshelter. Sue has always been really helpful, and I do find the updates from the ‘wider’ world to be of interest.

  • Having Action Hampshire as a point of reference, support and guidance is invaluable for small to medium sized charities like ourselves. Without them, we would be far less connected and less able to serve our beneficiaries in a meaningful and coordinated way.

Juno Hollyhock, The Rose Road Association
  • I have found Action Hampshire to be truly innovative and forward thinking in their approach to their work and their passion for the voluntary and community sector is easily measured through their work to help improve the lives of all sections of the community.

Grant Cornwell, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation
  • Action Hampshire are the most fantastic organisation and it has been a pleasure to collaborate with them. They are very positive and easy to work with, from Rachel’s warmth on the front desk all the way up to Sue’s vast knowledge and experience on the top floor.
