The Community Business Trade up Programme 2020

community business trade up

Do you run an organisation or project that exists to improve your local neighbourhood, village or town? Do you run it like a business, but re-invest profits to benefit your local community?

Action Hampshire in partnership with the School for Social Entrepreneurs could help you improve your impact and grow your project income.

We know that running organisations and projects like these is different from running other types of business. The School for Social Entrepreneurs have designed a support programme to help you gain the head-space, support network and funding you need to grow a stronger, more sustainable community business.

The Community Business Trade Up programme has some eligibility criteria for applicants, and these are explained in detail in the guidance notes (which you can get by entering your contact details here). In particular, your organisation needs to be less than 5 years old or making significant changes to its business plan or trading models. This is because the idea is that being on the programme helps you to increase your organisation’s trading income – the ‘Match Trading’ element shown below.

Key benefits

  • A free learning programme to help you develop your income and impact
  • Up to £10,000 in Match Trading grant – matching the amount you are able to increase your organisation’s income from trading
  • An opportunity to meet regularly with other people running organisations like yours, so you can help each other out

  • Pamber parish council were really pleased with the support provided by Action Hampshire’s Rural Housing Enabler helping us through the development process. It was a good experience.

    Chris Goss, Pamber Parish Council
  • Action Hampshire has always been a useful font of information for us at Winchester Churches Nightshelter. Sue has always been really helpful, and I do find the updates from the ‘wider’ world to be of interest.

    Michèle Price, Winchester Churches Nightshelter
  • Having Action Hampshire as a point of reference, support and guidance is invaluable for small to medium sized charities like ourselves. Without them, we would be far less connected and less able to serve our beneficiaries in a meaningful and coordinated way.

Juno Hollyhock, The Rose Road Association
  • I have found Action Hampshire to be truly innovative and forward thinking in their approach to their work and their passion for the voluntary and community sector is easily measured through their work to help improve the lives of all sections of the community.

Grant Cornwell, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation
  • Action Hampshire are the most fantastic organisation and it has been a pleasure to collaborate with them. They are very positive and easy to work with, from Rachel’s warmth on the front desk all the way up to Sue’s vast knowledge and experience on the top floor.

    George Scott-Welsh, IncuHive
