Police and Crime Commissioner invites bids from Portsmouth projects for Safer Together funding

Know of a local project, event or initiative that would benefit from an extra £500?

Organisations operating in the Portsmouth North and South constituency areas are invited to put themselves forward to receive a small grant as part of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Safer Together event to be held in Cascades Shopping Centre in May 2019.

Applications

Schools, community groups and voluntary organisations are all invited to submit a short application to the Police and Crime Commissioner by Monday 15 April 2019 to be in with a chance to win the funding.

Winning projects

The applications will then be shortlisted with the top entries being put to the public vote at the Safer Together Event in Cascades Shopping Centre, Commercial Road, Portsmouth on Saturday 18 May 2019. The winning projects will be awarded £500 following the public votes.

The Safer Together event showcases the partnership projects funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner that:

  • Support the vulnerable
  • Help victims of crime on their recovery journey
  • Work with those at risk of offending, helping them avoid triggers that might otherwise lead them into anti-social behaviour or crime
  • Enable the constabulary to focus on policing – identifying threats and risks, protecting the community and pursuing those who wish us harm.

Michael Lane said: “Reducing crime and promoting public safety is delivered in partnership. Success creates safer communities and reduces the burden on stretched public services. There are many great initiatives and events already in operation that help keep us safer, and equally lots of innovative and creative ideas for new projects. Sometimes is just takes a small amount of financial support to get something started or help an existing scheme to make a bigger impact.

By working in partnership to create inclusive and resilient communities we can all ensure that Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton are amongst the safest places to live, work and visit. We are all Safer Together.”

  • Pamber parish council were really pleased with the support provided by Action Hampshire’s Rural Housing Enabler helping us through the development process. It was a good experience.

  • Action Hampshire has always been a useful font of information for us at Winchester Churches Nightshelter. Sue has always been really helpful, and I do find the updates from the ‘wider’ world to be of interest.

    Michèle Price, Winchester Churches Nightshelter
  • Having Action Hampshire as a point of reference, support and guidance is invaluable for small to medium sized charities like ourselves. Without them, we would be far less connected and less able to serve our beneficiaries in a meaningful and coordinated way.

Juno Hollyhock, The Rose Road Association
  • I have found Action Hampshire to be truly innovative and forward thinking in their approach to their work and their passion for the voluntary and community sector is easily measured through their work to help improve the lives of all sections of the community.

Grant Cornwell, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation
  • Action Hampshire are the most fantastic organisation and it has been a pleasure to collaborate with them. They are very positive and easy to work with, from Rachel’s warmth on the front desk all the way up to Sue’s vast knowledge and experience on the top floor.
