News round-up for community buildings

Read on for information about how your community building could benefit from having a heating control system, and how to source cheap, re-manufactured paint.

HeatingSave – programming and controlling your building’s heating system

Would you like to control your building’s heating remotely, and programme it to be ready for your hirers’ varying requirements? Earlier this year, I heard a talk from a supplier of the HeatingSave system. They boast a ‘proven track record of achieving savings of 30%+, in some cases over 50%’.

The system is endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust, and their website has more information about how the HeatingSave product works – click here for more.

Other heating control systems are, of course, available. Search online for ‘building management system’ to start you off.

Energy use and generation links

If you’re interested in energy use issues, also take a look at the Community Energy South website. They offer information and networking opportunities to groups interested in reducing energy use, renewable energy schemes, and addressing fuel poverty.

And you might find this interesting – trains powered by solar-generated electricity. If you’d like to hear more about the Riding Sunbeams project, there’s a free talk on Wednesday 2 October from 7:00 to 8:30pm at Winchester Discovery Centre. Book here.

Redecorating on a budget

The Community RePaint scheme, sponsored by Dulux, offers re-manufactured paint at low cost to community organisations.

They offer a range of colours in matt or silk emulsion, and might also have other colours / products available (including rollers and brushes). If you need at least 60 litres of paint, get in touch with them.

  • Action Hampshire has always been a useful font of information for us at Winchester Churches Nightshelter. Sue has always been really helpful, and I do find the updates from the ‘wider’ world to be of interest.

  • Having Action Hampshire as a point of reference, support and guidance is invaluable for small to medium sized charities like ourselves. Without them, we would be far less connected and less able to serve our beneficiaries in a meaningful and coordinated way.

Juno Hollyhock, The Rose Road Association
  • I have found Action Hampshire to be truly innovative and forward thinking in their approach to their work and their passion for the voluntary and community sector is easily measured through their work to help improve the lives of all sections of the community.

Grant Cornwell, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation
  • Action Hampshire are the most fantastic organisation and it has been a pleasure to collaborate with them. They are very positive and easy to work with, from Rachel’s warmth on the front desk all the way up to Sue’s vast knowledge and experience on the top floor.

    George Scott-Welsh, IncuHive
