Mentoring and apprenticeship schemes for young creatives
Wake up! It’s time to MIND THE GAP
Winchester Creatives is a new social enterprise to help local graduates under 25 years-old to ‘get in and get on’ in the digital and creative industry!
It has launched Mind the Gap, a crowdfunding campaign which aims to begin by raising £5,000 locally in August.
The team seek to reach £50,000 to fund paid-for apprenticeships and mentoring places for jobless Winchester creatives between the ages of 20-24 years old, focusing on candidates from BAME and diverse backgrounds. The campaign wants to support five fund apprenticeships in five disciplines over five months.
The global recession, sparked by the pandemic, has created a gap in the jobs market for young people. It has become increasingly difficult for young creatives to find their way into the creative sector, and it is only going to get more challenging. Not only is there a gap for employers trying to hire new creative talent, but there’s also a gap for our communities if creativity is not championed and supported.
Richard Coope, co-founder of Winchester Creatives said:
“Covid-19 has left a hole in the futures of Hampshire’s young creatives. According to the BBC, more young people are experiencing feelings of hopelessness and job despair…. The Resolution Foundation Think Tank predicts the UK level of unemployment will rise leaving one million under-25s out of a job for the foreseeable future. It is clear something has to be done quickly to stop our young people from falling through the gap. The Winchester Creatives team want to do something to change that”.
