Member of the Month // The Harting Bus

The Harting Bus is operated by Harting Minibus Community Interest Company and we are one of the oldest community transport companies in the country. We started in 1973 with a yellow bus called, “Daffodil” and we are about to take delivery of our newest bus, a 16-seater Fiat Ducato. We are also running a competition to name the new bus as we write – watch this space!

The Harting Bus provides scheduled runs to Petersfield, Chichester and Midhurst from our Parish of Harting on the Sussex / Hampshire borders and is a vital life-line to many in our villages. We also run excursions and day-trips to places such as Goodwood and to Brighton and Hove Greyhound Racing and lay on special Christmas Excursions to Supermarkets and Christmas Markets. The buses are used to take the senior school children to school in Petersfield during the term time, and, in doing so we save thousands of car journeys each year. Our buses are available for private hire to members of our Parish when they are not being used for our scheduled runs, school runs and excursions!

Everyone involved in The Harting Bus is a volunteer and last year our buses travelled over 21,000 miles. Our team of 30 drivers volunteered for over 1,600 hours and our volunteer maintenance crew spent over 400 hours ensuring our buses were safe and legal.

  • Pamber parish council were really pleased with the support provided by Action Hampshire’s Rural Housing Enabler helping us through the development process. It was a good experience.

    Chris Goss, Pamber Parish Council
  • Action Hampshire has always been a useful font of information for us at Winchester Churches Nightshelter. Sue has always been really helpful, and I do find the updates from the ‘wider’ world to be of interest.

    Michèle Price, Winchester Churches Nightshelter
  • Having Action Hampshire as a point of reference, support and guidance is invaluable for small to medium sized charities like ourselves. Without them, we would be far less connected and less able to serve our beneficiaries in a meaningful and coordinated way.

Juno Hollyhock, The Rose Road Association
  • I have found Action Hampshire to be truly innovative and forward thinking in their approach to their work and their passion for the voluntary and community sector is easily measured through their work to help improve the lives of all sections of the community.

Grant Cornwell, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation
  • Action Hampshire are the most fantastic organisation and it has been a pleasure to collaborate with them. They are very positive and easy to work with, from Rachel’s warmth on the front desk all the way up to Sue’s vast knowledge and experience on the top floor.

    George Scott-Welsh, IncuHive
