Back of the Sofa

Have you looked down the Back of the Sofa? You might find some money for your organisation – through switching your energy supplier, getting the best deal on your insurance, and making sure you’re not paying more VAT than you need to.

Back of the Sofa have a range of resources on their website to help charities save money. It’s all free to use – their income comes from the ’finder’s fee’ that new utility suppliers pay when you switch to them (see here for more info).

Be aware that the reduced VAT rate on fuel and electricity (as mentioned here) does not automatically apply to community buildings. You do qualify for the reduced VAT rate if your usage is below certain levels but above those levels the standard VAT rate is likely to apply, because hiring out rooms does not qualify as ‘non-business use’. Contact us for more details about this.
