It seems devolution proposals are like buses; we hear nothing for months, then three come along at once. Action Hampshire has produced a guide to the latest developments, the details of deals and the consultations.
Following the unravelling of the Hampshire & IOW prospectus for devolution, other authorities have sought to develop their own deals. Current proposals are:
- The Solent Deal a combined authority comprised of Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight, Gosport, Fareham, East Hampshire, Eastleigh, Havant and Solent LEP.
- Heart of Hampshire a combined authority comprised of Basingstoke and Deane, Hart, New Forest, Rushmoor, Test Valley, Winchester, Hampshire County Council and Enterprise M3 LEP.
- HIOW+ After the previous devolution proposal failed to gain support from central government, with a particular sticking point being the need for a directly elected mayor, Hampshire County Council have gone back to the drawing board. Their consultation ‘Serving Hampshire’ presents options for reorganisation.
Action Hampshire has prepared a briefing paper setting out the main headlines and drawing out in particular those issues likely to be of interest to the voluntary and community sector.
