A busy time of the year for the Lloyds Banks Social Entrepreneurs programme – Graduation for the current group of students is to be held on Thursday 6th October at the Winchester Science Centre, the end of a year of opportunities for them. We have seen their enterprises grow and develop and we hope to keep in touch with them as they become Fellows of the School.

Our new group of students are ready to start and we are busy booking venues, speakers and visits for them as they start on their year with us. We have our usual broad range of enterprise ideas, from learning, communication and money advice through care, horticulture and parenting to art, sport and food!

Small your idea starts here The Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs Programme is designed to empower people who have an idea for an enterprise which will address social issues and disadvantage in their communities, by giving them the skills, resources and finance to bring their idea to life.

Previous students include:
The Inspiration Federation run by Portsmouth entrepreneur Danny Glavin. This organisation works closely within the education sector to deliver programmes in schools which; promote responsible citizenship and social responsibility; inspire young people; raise aspirations; and champion inspirational members of society
Jason Bentley of the Recycled Assets Company, an innovative recycling and waste management company
Ethical film maker, Kate Maple of Embrace the Change
PJ Qureshi offering a professional consultancy solving legal and court matters with Court and Tribunal Solutions
and many more.

This support for local talent fueling social enterprise across Britain today has been made possible with funding from Lloyds Bank, with additional funding of £6m from the Big Lottery Fund. The 100% increase on investment further increases the ambition of the Programme, to recruit and support budding social entrepreneurs who have the potential to create well over £20m in social value. The funding boost has also enabled the number of delivery locations to almost double from seven to 13, allowing the Programme to reach deeper into local communities.

Speaking about the programme, Sue Dovey Chief Executive Officer of Action Hampshire said: “The unique action learning method we use alters the perceptions of a typical ‘school’, in doing so we help to develop some of the most credible and confident entrepreneurs in the UK. This year we aim to do the same with our intake of students by empowering them with the appropriate tools to thrive in today’s challenging climate.”

Paul Turner, Community & Sustainable Business Director at Lloyds Bank says: “Helping our communities thrive is one of the key ways we will help Britain prosper. The support being delivered to social enterprises throughout the nation’s communities by Lloyds Banking Group is not simply about the financial boost provided and the jobs created but, as importantly, is about the way in which we will connect the successful students with our team of experienced mentors who have a wealth of business experience which we hope will help the students to build truly sustainable social enterprises.”
